It was an honour for Anthony and I to attend two memorable events celebrating the life of one of the New Forest's best loved artists, the late Barry Peckham ROI, RSMA, SEA. His work has been much appreciated here over almost 30 years.
Georgina Babey (Barry's former partner of many years) and Barry's daughters worked with Barry's widow Sarah to bring together paintings held by the family for an exhibition at the New Forest Heritage Centre in Lyndhurst, New Forest. The show opened on 20 September and runs until the 10th October 2025.
Don't miss it! It's a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the progression of a remarkable artist who portrayed the Forest in all its season with love and understanding.
On the 25th September Georgina also gave an inspirational talk on Barry and his work and influences: "Artists in the New Forest: Past Masters". It was a packed house at the New Forest Community Centre in Lyndhurst in an event that illustrated the high regard in which he was held. What a legacy and what joy his work has brought many. One member of the audience, the proud owner of no less than 70 works, had travelled from Holland simply to be there!
