I've been lucky enough to have been involved in the recent discovery of the extraordinary talents of Tom Charman (1863-1939) whose drawings and carvings take us into the world of spirits, fairies and elves of the New Forest and the natural world. I'll be telling you about his early life on the stage as a music hall entertainer, his days in the New Forest embracing the Arcadian life sought by many after WW1 and his relationship with key influencers of the time such as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Ernest Westlake. We will reveal his artistic career in the 1920s and 1930s, how he found his way to Godshill Pottery and explore how Tom Charman’s imaginative art and carvings have created a legacy that still thrills us today.

Join us in Tom Charman's very different world! 24th June 2025, 7.30pm at Netley Marsh History Society. (Netley Marsh Community Hall, Woodlands Road, Netley Marsh SO40 7GE). £4 admission including refreshments.
