In 1958 the Berlins acquired Peartree Farm opposite their house, Home Farm in Emery Down. With its Dutch barn, Berlin had, Juanita recalls: ‘a perfect sculptor’s workshop…. Stone arrived; Portland, marble, alabaster and Connemara marble…
There was also a new painting studio in the hayloft. This was above the stable for one of Juanita’s Appaloosas, the senior stallion, Spotlight. Sven admitted that he was afraid of all Juanita’s stallions and that he found himself in the predicament of being ‘jealous of a bloody horse’! This powerful painting is a portrayal of this mighty steed.
